Year 5 - Maths 24 Championship

On Thursday 6th July Miss Aderonke Shokoya took six of our Year 5 pupils along to the Greenwich/Bexley Maths 24 Championship. Over the last few months Bannockburn has successfully moved through the preliminary stages and finally gained a place at the finals. Over 12 primary schools from across both Greenwich and Bexley came together at Bexley Civic Centre.

After some really stiff competition I am proud to announce that Bannockburn Primary was awarded the Gold Medal for achieving the highest team score. A huge congratulations to all those who represented our school and gave up so much of their spare time to practice.

How to Play

Object of the game: Make the number 24 from the four numbers on a game card.
You can add, subtract, multiply and divide. Use all four numbers on the card, but use each number only once. You do not have to use all four operations. All number nines have a red center, so you can tell a nine from a six. Can you solve the card below?

4 x 3 = 12
12 x 2 = 24
24 ÷ 1 = 24
This is an easy card, called a “1 Dot,” because it has one white dot in the corner. Cards of medium difficulty have two red dots in the corner, and tough cards have three yellow dots.
